We developed a fully animated visual system for FETCH Rewards, from concept to final delivery we blending storytelling, graphic design and character creation.

The result? A cast of expressive, charismatic Pointlings that are unique and true to the brand’s identity, Animations that that works in any device. These characters, with their playful personalities, bring the app to life and resonate with users on an emotional level.

Collaborating closely with the client over two consecutive years, we ensured that every stage aligned with evolving communication goals. This partnership allowed us to craft a product that not only met the needs of each new feature but also maintained a high standard of quality while keeping the experience engaging and fun.

ABOUT THE CELEBRATIONS

Always looking for excuses to have fun, they thrive on mischief and duplication. Whether it’s a brush or a burger, anything sparks a celebration!

Our heros in action

Eyes and mouth

Our heroes follow their own logic, using the “plus” sign both as a pupil/eye and, when needed, as a mouth. This versatile design allows us to express a wide range of emotions while keeping their look simple and unique.

Duplication

When a Pointling experiences extreme fun, it duplicates, creating new Pointlings. Like a cell in mitosis, this moment of “duplication” becomes a visually engaging and dynamic event.

Scalable & executable designs

The challenge was to design unique characters capable of expressing emotions while being easy to reproduce and animate across all mobile devices. To achieve this, we developed a character system based on simple geometries, minimizing vector complexity. This approach ensures technical efficiency while maintaining a joyful and vibrant personality.

Adaptable resolution

To ensure flexibility, we’ve designed animations to work seamlessly across different aspect ratios. The 4:3 area serves as a safe zone, keeping the main action focused and intact regardless of the format.

Storytelling & categories

The pointlings thrive on fun, pushing their curiosity to the max. In each celebration, they interact with each other or objects to amplify the excitement, duplicating themselves when successful. To distinguish categories, we enhance visual complexity with background elements, dynamic camera movements, and increasingly playful pranks and adventures.

Visual system tier rewards

Common

We’ll see 1 – 2 pointlings doing some mischief.

Uncommon

We’ll see 5 – 6 pointlings having fun in many ways. We start to see 3 different colors in celebrations.

Rare

We’ll see 7 to 10 pointlings having fun in a huge way. A full variety of colors will be used.

Epic

We’ll see a enormous chain reaction where pointlings are everywhere. The entire color spectrum will be used.

The possibilities of multiple features

From the start, the goal was to create a world full of future opportunities. This required a unique yet simple design and a storytelling logic that could easily expand while solving new communication challenges.

Features are a limitless source of ideas, making the process both exciting and complex. In our initial brainstorming, we gathered as much input as possible from the client and explored how our characters could integrate features like gaming mechanics, interactive animations, user experiences, and real-world events tied to user profiles. This led to the development of three key app features.

Daily rewards

A basic game logic prize reward to the user with a spinoff machine.

Personal records

Here the users are rewarded if they beat their own monthly points. That is why the celebrations at the beginning break the fourth wall to celebrate the user for having achieved it.

Seasonal

Celebrations linked to all kind of holidays in the year schedule.

Design exploration

Fetch Rewards frequently uses the “+” sign throughout its app. Building on this and our goals, we explored various aesthetic and conceptual approaches. Our priority was to create characters that bring fun and emotional storytelling to life, capturing the spirit of the Pointlings to deeply engage users.

We began with a concept of a human couple competing to capture Pointlings. This evolved into small characters that transformed through interactions with everyday objects found in receipts. Finally, we refined their design to achieve the perfect balance of complexity and charisma, resulting in the lovable Pointlings.
